Overview

Recently I went to a Convention in Toronto Ontario and decided to take some photos of the costume that I wore. The inspiration for the aesthetic came from the photographer and game designer Liam Wong, as they have a sort of visual futurist / cyberpunk esque style. My goal with these photos was to try and edit my photos in Lightroom to have a similar look to Liam Wong’s work.

In the pursuit of creative expression, I recently had the opportunity to attend the Fan Expo Convention in the city of Toronto, Ontario. This occasion provided me the chance to wear a pretty cool costume, which I found particularly interesting to photograph. For this project I was using a Fujifilm xt4 mirrorless camera for the first time, and it was interesting getting to grips with the nuances of that camera body.

Inspiration

Drawing inspiration for the aesthetic of these photos was quite an engaging process. I turned to the work of Liam Wong, an esteemed photographer and game designer, who is renowned for his dark and cyberpunk-inspired style. Wong's unique perspective has always resonated with me, and I found that his approach to visual storytelling was something I wanted to emulate in my own work. The goal for me was to bring a similar aesthetic to my photographs, using Wong's style as a benchmark. I spent considerable time editing, adjusting, and refining the images to capture the essence of Wong's signature look.

Final Photos

This creative exploration was not about replicating Wong's style per se, but also about learning and incorporating elements of his aesthetic into my own photographic expression. As a result, I was able to create a unique set of photos, each bearing a semblance to the distinct and compelling visual style that Liam Wong is famous for.
